Solid Services regularly inspects mooring and loading jetties used in the (petro) chemical industry. Good integrity of these structures is crucial to the continuation of loading operations and thus the production processes.

Sea jetty, Borsele

The sea jetty is a berth for ships to receive (crude) products from other refineries. A large portion is transported, via pipes attached to the sea jetty, to the adjacent petroleum refinery.

The petroleum refinery in question would like to continue using the concrete sea jetty for decades to come. Since the sea jetty is showing damage in several places, Solid Services was asked how its residual life can be extended. In response to the client’s request, Solid Services started an inspection and investigation.

Solid Services ultimately recommended manual repairs on the concrete damage, making the concrete deck thicker and applying a protective coating system to the whole jetty.

Additional information

The concrete sea jetty will have to be repaired carefully. The pipes that are attached to the sea jetty will have to be lifted and, in accordance with the applicable environmental requirements, no debris may be permitted to fall into the sea during the repair work. In addition, the supply of petroleum and the production process must both continue as usual!
