Post T signal box
The Post T signal box is located at the end of one of the platforms at Maastricht railway station. This used to be where rail points and signals were electronically operated until 1985, after which the signal box fell into disrepair. t suffered significant concrete damage, especially to the canopy roof and platforms. Solid Services carried out the inspection and investigations and drew up a plan for the renovation of the signal box.
After cleaning and blasting the concrete surface, all concrete damage was repaired and the concrete surface preserved. As a result, this listed monument, which is owned by NS Stations, has been preserved as heritage.
Additional information
The striking white signal box, designed by architect Van Ravesteyn, is now a listed monument. The signal box was in service until 1985, but then fell into disrepair. This unique building came perilously close to being demolished. This signal box is the last intact example of the many signal boxes designed by S. van Ravensteyn for Dutch Railways. Due to the excellent design that is entirely in line with the high operational requirements – possibly due to the ingenious concrete supporting structure – the signal box is not only a sound, representative example of the work of S. van Ravensteyn, but also of the structural and architectural capacity of the New Objectivity style of architecture. The signal box is still completely intact, down to the entire control unit.
