Hezelpoort Nijmegen

Hezelpoort Nijmegen
The Hezelpoort is a vaulted arch bridge made of brick with natural stone elements. On top of the vaulted arch bridge are three railway tracks. Various defects were detected, such as cracking with leakages in the shotcrete layer in the vault. Cracks and traces of leakage were also found in the fair-faced brickwork of the wing walls.

The investigation was part of various preparatory activities for planned renovation work on the Hezelpoort. The work required, in outline, is as follows:

  • waterproofing of the entire construction;
  • repair of the cracks in the shotcrete and the masonry;
  • aesthetic restoration of the shotcrete and the fair-faced brickwork.

Additional information

For the waterproofing, it was decided to apply a foil construction above the vault (moisture barrier) and soil grouting was also recommended.
